5 Quick Websites Tweaks To Boost Conversion

I’m always really surprised ( shocked may be a better word) that marketers will put so much time and money into developing a website without really spending any time on the thought process of what your sites #1 function is.

Unless you are a huge “BRAND” with a limitless pot of cash – the average marketer needs to put his (or her) website to work ASAP.

Let me ask you a quick question first – “If you were the manager of an employee who wasn’t pulling their weight – what would you do?”

Fire them!!

But I see so many people “making do” with a website without a purpose.

Here are 5 key ingredients things I think are essential for your website to succeed.

# 1 – Collect Prospects Information

People tend not to buy from you when they first come into contact with you and your website.

It’s a bit like going on a date.

You need to take things slowly at first.

In order to get a second date you need to get someone contact details (at least their email address) so that you can contact them again in the future.

Lots of prominent research has shown that people will generally buy after around 6-7 contacts.

Just think how much money you are leaving on the table if you are NOT collecting this information and using a CRM system such as Infusionsoft to effectively follow up with leads and prospects.

Quick TIP: Try and make sure your opt in/ sign up form is “above the fold (i.e. your prospect doesn’t have to scroll down the page to enter their details.)

# 2 – Make Sure Your Website Loads Quickly

There’s no bigger “turn-off” to someone than a web page that takes ages to load. Don’t have huge “Flash Animations” that take an eternity to download. Keep it simple. Don’t confuse your prospects or piss them off with fancy graphics!!

People’s patience online are minute – slow sites get clicked away from.

# 3 – Effective Page Titles Get Clicked on

Before your website even gets clicked on you have to give your prospect that maybe is searching online a real reason to click onto your site.

Try and be a bit creative here and put your sales copy training into action.

Once the person clicks through from the search engine it’s vital that your message is congruent.

There’s no point saying your website is the best place to learn how to lose weight when in fact some actually visits it it’s all about dating!!

Keep the language simple and interesting.

# 4 – Give Away some of your best Stuff!

I know – sounds kind of crazy! I thought this the first time I heard it too.

Think about it for a few minutes though – what better way to prove to someone that you are truly an expert in your chosen field than giving them some free stuff?

It works like gangbusters!

People are pretty self-centred and selfish (sorry if I burst your bubble on that one… but its true I’m afraid!)

Your “stuff” has to either help solve your prospects problem or help them reach their goals.

Remember your website is about “them” not “you” if you really want to be successful.

Once people know, like and trust you they are much more likely to buy from you.

# 5 – Credibility is Key

As I just mentioned in the last point – prospects buy from people they know, like and trust.

Here are just a few ways to boost your credibility

  • Use Testimonials – people like to see and hear what other thought. Video works best
  • Display Your Contact Details Clearly – one of the biggest bug bears on line is people want to know it’s not a scam. By showing your contact details clearly this will build trust
  • Case Studies & Articles – nothing builds credibility faster than people seeing that you are an expert by reading articles or watching videos on your website.
  • People love pictures of real people – (that includes you!) agin this is great to boost credibility.
