7 Critical Marketing Areas In Your Business That You Need To Focus On For Success Right Now

In any business there are 7 critical areas you must have in place for success. It’s very similar to the “wheel of life” but here we are using the same principals for our marketing strategy.

In order for your business to operate smoothly and be general less stressful and time consuming for you the business owner, you MUST not only have all the spokes in place but they must be balanced too.

If you can imagine a wheel with 7 spokes (listed below) running from a central hub:-

  1. A hungry, responsive audience that have money to spend. (No point trying to sell to people who are broke or who don’t have credit cards!)
  2. A USP – This is a “BIGGIE” – people just don’t seem to want to focus on this one at all. You MUST differentiate yourself from the competition or you’ll be forced to compete on price which will slash your profit margins. Try to focus on what makes you unique. Is it your product, service or a mix of both?
  3. A Systematic way to increase the LCV (Lifetime Customer Value) of every customer. If your LCV is greater than your competitors you can afford to out-market them.
  4. A system for reaching the “high-earners/more affluent” segment of your market. Remember this section of the market don’t make decisions based on price. (TIP: Think Mercedes Benz, Bentley, Rolex Etc.)
  5. A consistent lead generation mechanism. New leads are the lifeblood of your business.
  6. Mix up the marketing channels – don’t just rely on emails. Use direct mail, SMS, Social Media, Referral marketing, Classifieds, PPC etc.
  7. A Strategic process for generating more sales and leads online. This is especially true if you are an offline business who relies on traditional marketing channels such as newspaper ads etc. More and more people are searching online. Ensure you don’t miss out to your competition.

Try This Excersise…

Excercise

A great exercise is to take 5 – 10 minutes to rate where you consider you are now on a scale of 1-10 (1 being awful and 10 being world-class).

Draw the wheel out on a piece of paper and the central hub is 0 on your scale.

Draw the 7 spokes as lines from the centre like the wheels on a bike. Mark your rating on each line with a dot.

Then join all the dots up. Ideally your wheel should be all 7+ but in most cases one or more areas will let you down (i.e. have a low score).

This exercise highlights areas of immediate attention that need work RIGHT NOW.

The aim long term is to have a balanced wheel, with all areas scoring highly.

Remember – you cannot be a world-class company without all these areas scoring highly.
