Today’s book review is by Donald Miller and it’s Building a Story Brand. Donald Miller is really famous, and probably the world’s leading expert around building brands based on a story.

Building a StoryBrand does this by teaching listeners the seven universal story points all humans respond to, the real reason customers make purchases, how to simplify a brand message so people understand it, and how to create the most effective messaging for websites, brochures, and social media.

And really to summarize what the book’s about is how to clarify your marketing message so it’s very simple for your audience to understand. And in this book, they go through all the steps you need to go.

So basically, one of the things which I felt was a real takeaway is if someone comes to your website, they really need to know in a split second what your website’s about. If there’s any sort of doubt or any capacity, basically, human beings, by nature are very lazy the way they think. There’s any doubt when they come to say your website or reading your marketing materials what this is about unless there’s some intrigue there then chances are they’re not going to get it, and they could bounce back off the page.

So it’s a really excellent book. It’s a step-by-step approach to things. Some really nice things to do. Lots of work examples of how the businesses are incorporated. These sort of strategies in their business and the sort of success they’ve had. Definitely, something that you should be doing with your business is to create a brand that people understand.

When I do lots of consulting work with clients, one of the first things we look at is what is the brand about? And there’s one of my clients who is basically an educator in quite a niche area of psychology. And when I first went to her website, it was very difficult for someone who’s not a technician, someone within that industry to understand what it was about. And we managed over a period of time to condense and refine that message. So it was really simplistic for anyone coming to that site to understand what it’s about.

So a great book. Definitely, one to put on your bucket list to read. And some great tips in it to start applying almost immediately in your business. You can get up and started with these things straight away within your business immediately.
