How to Get Some Inspiration for the Year Ahead

There’s something magical about this time of year. Hopefully you’ll be reflecting on the last 12 months. Some things will have gone better than expected and something’s not so well. Learn lessons from past actions to be constantly improving in the days, months and years ahead.

Time To Focus…

Time to focus on what you do best and capitalise on the things that are working for you right now. Make adjustments where needed to create the business and life of your dreams.

We all need inspiration to help keep us on track so I thought I’d share 3 of my favourite sources of inspiration.

  •        Your Customers (and potential future customers) – for your business to truly flourish you must give your customer exactly what they want and desire. A great way to do this is to use simple surveys (you’ll be amazed at the responses). Keep asking them for 2 reasons. Firstly it helps you stay tuned to your market 2. Your customers will know you care because you take the time and trouble to ask. A win: win solution that is totally underused and dead simple to implement. Focus on your USP. What makes your company unique? This is a biggie. So many companies are the same and often need to compete by slashing prices. Don’t fall into that trap!!
  •         Your Competitors – Yikes!! I’m not asking you to move to the dark side. But there’s a great saying that goes something like “keep your friends close and your enemies even closer”. Whilst your competitors aren’t necessarily your enemies they do need to be observed. I’m sure in every industry there are around a handful of companies who are at their “A Game”. You need to study what they are doing well and apply these strategies to your own business. A HUGE tip is to try working with your competitors not against them. I know this sounds counter intuitive but bear with me please…..There will be opportunities to work side by side with competitors. You just need to think of an angle that works for both parties. When you do make the first step.
  •        Your Passions – Whilst we all want the perfect lifestyle business that fuels our dreams and brings home the bacon, business like this aren’t built overnight I’m afraid. You need to take action and have a plan. Most people spend too much time planning and not enough time taking action. They want to create the perfect “widget” (or whatever it may be). Your product doesn’t need to be perfect first time around. It should be improving all the time from feedback. BUT (and this is a huge BUT) if you aren’t in the market you don’t have a business! A great phrase I love in “Ready, Fire, Aim”. Do something and then correct as you go along. This was a huge mistake I made and cost me £000’s in lost business because I didn’t want to sell my product until it was 100% perfect. Never give up on your passions. Use your gut feelings and instincts to help guide your path. Make a plan, write it down and start on your journey to success. I can virtually guarantee where you end up is a different place to your initial vision and passion.
